Himno Canadiense

“O Canada” fue proclamado como el Himno Nacional de Canadá el primero de julio de 1980, 100 años después de que fuera cantado por primera vez el 24 de junio, de 1880. La música fue compuesta por Calixa Lavallée, una reconocida compositora; la letra en francés fue escrita por Sir Adolphe-Basile Routhier. La popularidad de la canción aumentó consistentemente. Varias versiones en inglés aparecieron durante años. La versión en la cual se basa la letra oficial en el idioma inglés fue escrita en 1908 por Justice Robert Stanley Weir. La versión oficial en inglés incluye los cambios recomendados en 1968 por un Comité Especial conjunto entre el Senado y la Casa de los Comunes. La letra en Francés permanece intacta.
